Heather has a bunch of ideas for a new home she wants built.
So Heather engages a local architect to convert her ideas into a house plan.
“A” To begin with, the architect creates some visual architectural drawings, based on Heather’s needs.
“B” When Heather and the architect are satisfied with the ‘design’, the architect prepares a Specification Document. This has all the needed details for the house construction.
Heather then engages a residential home builder firm.
“C” Their work-team uses the visual house plan (or blueprint) so they understands the ‘big picture’.
“D” Where needed, the builder consults the Specification sheets so that they understand all the important details
6 months later, Heather gets the keys to her home
You start with an Idea of the end result you want
An architect draws visual plans, then adds detailed specifications
People with the appropriate skills deliver the end result
The architect’ visual floor plan allows you to grasp the essence or big picture, without getting bogged down with details.
The job of the specs is to ensure that important details are clearly communicated to those involved in implementation.
